26 May 1877 — Therapia | |
Saturday. 26th [May 1877]. Went out on the terrace & began my sketch of the archway to the garden. Lady Davies came & sat & worked with me till lunch. At 4 we went out riding with the Davies & Mr Kennedy. We went by the Buyukderé road to the aqueduct & from there Mr Kennedy undertook to show us the way thro’ the woods to Belgrade but he lost his way & took us rather a round about way so that we had a long tho’ lovely ride & came out of the wood upon a bend or artificial lake made by damming up a valley. We returned by the road to the aqueduct & from there over the hills home. We only got back just in time to dress for dinner. | |
