Monday. 9th July [1877]. Began making the mattress covers for the Red Crescent. Had the machine taken out to the Grove & worked there with Miss Boyd all the morng despite a headache wh I had. We made 8 mattrass covers before lunch. After lunch Miss Boyd returned to Candilli in Miss Sorells 3 pair boat– I & Henry went out in our 3 pair caique to Hyssar to call on Ahmet Vefik. They told us at the village that he was gone to town in his caique so we went across to Mrs Willy Hanson’s & there found Miss Boyd. We had some tea & then rowed home. H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh, P. & Pss Reuss, Mlle Einsiedel, Capt. Stopford (H.M.S. Helicon), Capt Wingfield, Mr Rassam, Adl Hornby, Genl Dickson & Mr Kennedy was our dining party.
