21 September 1877 — Therapia
Friday. 21st [September 1877]. Sent off 2 bales of clothing to Bazardzhik & 1000 bandages to Ahmet Vefyk. At 12.30 I started in the mouche for Candilli & lunched with Mrs Willie. Directly after Mrs Arthur & I started off for Stamboul. At the Sirkeji Iskelesi were met by Vefyk’s secy & drove to see the house taken for a hospital for the wounded & sick refugee women. Were met by Dr Dickson & Dr Largo (Vefyk’s Dr) but was furious at finding only one patient. The house is large airy & comfortable. Went on to the square of the Mosque of M. Bayazid to see the kind of fair held there during Ramazan. Saw some old china with fearful prices. Major de W. met us at the scala & we took him home. Mr Greville (naval attaché) & Mr Elliot dined. Two American naval officers came after dinner & Mr Kennett & helped to make bandages. The heat was tremendous all day.
