2 April 1878 — Constantinople
Tuesday. 2nd [April 1878]. Directly after breakfast Henry went to the Sultan at his mothers. At 11 I went off to go to the Dolmabaghcheh Mosque where Mrs Arthur H. met me in her large caique & took me to Candilli. It was fine but somewhat windy. I lunched with her & Mrs Hy Hanson was there & then she took me to walk in the garden of old Mrs Hanson. I called on Mrs Charles H. & then returned & had tea at Mrs Arthurs. The views were lovely the sky & sea so blue & bright, but as I went back in the caique there was rather too much swell. I got home about 5 & was glad to rest but I had to finish Henry’s despatch before dinner. We had a dinner party of 17. The Fernandez’, the Kosjeks, the Vernonis, Mr Longeville, Galvagna, Col. Freemantle, M. Verhaeghe, the Alischans. Ld Salisbury is the new Minister for F.A.
