Sunday. 23rd [June 1878]. No service, Mr Gribble ill. Read & taught Jerry. Mr Ashburnham came to say he was going to start for England tomorrow as he had news of his father’s death. Réfyk Bey, Ahmet Vefyk’s son, called & brought me some pigeons sent me by his father from Brusa. Zichy & Mr Deveaux called. There being a Court mourning for King of Hanover we put off tomorrow’s party– Had tea in the grove with Henry, Mr Rassam & Mr Mallet. The Embassy except Ash. Mr Chermside & 2 french Secretaries Denant & Dumaine also dined. | |
