27 August 1878 — Therapia
Tuesday. 27th [August 1878]. Had Turkish lesson wh took up all the morng. At 4.30 Henry & I, Miss Scobell, Blanche Bilinsky & all the secretaries & Mr Sandison except Mr Ashburnham & Mr Wallace embarked on the “Antelope” and we left the Burrs at home together while we went off to Prinkipo to go to the dance on board the “Achilles.” It was a lovely calm afternoon & just as we got there the sunset most gorgeously. Henry & I went off to the Salamis to call on Lady Hornby & then I had to dress quickly & we dined & directly after went to the ball. Capt. Heneage received us most politely and the ship looked lovely roofed over with flags & hung with hundreds of lamps & even chandeliers wh I afterwards found out were lent out of a Greek church. Henry did not stay beyond 11 oclock but I & the young ladies remained till 2—& they enjoyed themselves very much. We slept on board the “Antelope.”
