5 September 1878 — Therapia
Thursday. 5th September [1878]. Mrs Burr & I breakfasted at 8 & went off to Chibukli in the steam launch to paint & stayed despite a tremendous wind that was blowing till 1 o’cl. Being Ramazan there were few people about; a short time before we left the mullah of the village came & offered to sit for his portrait & Mrs Burr made a scribble of him. We had a very rough journey home and had to disembark at the hotel & walk from there. We got in after 2 & found every one waiting for us to go to luncheon. Painted again indoors in the afternoon & went out to the tennis ground. Mr Loftus the messenger dined with us.
