19 September 1878 — Therapia | |
Thursday. 19th September [1878]. Studied & wrote Turkish. In the course of the morng I received a message that the Nawab wanted me in his room. I went up & he placed me in a chair & proceeded to take out of a canvass bag a gold bead necklace wh he tied round my neck & he then tied on each arm a bracelet to match put me on a belt and an emerald ring on one hand & a diamond on the other. After wh he kissed me on both cheeks & sent me away with a parcel for Mrs Burr containing bracelets & a brooch. The Nawab drove off to Stamboul for the day & did not come back till abt 10 at night. A large riding party went out after lunch. Mr & Mrs Burr went off to sketch & the Adl & Lady H to walk. Henry & I took a short walk in the garden. It was stormy all day & threatened rain. | |
