29 September 1878 — Therapia | |
Sunday. 29th September [1878]. Painted all the morning. Henry went to Yildiz to see the Sultan. It was still blowing– In the afternoon it cleared and May & Mellony went out for a walk with the gentlemen of the chancery & I retired to my room & read till dinner time. Abt 6 o’cl the Burrs turned up from Brusa very tired having left at 3 this morng & having eaten nothing since. Henry returned from Yildiz abt 7. He said he had been 4 hours with H.M. who had shown him all his favorite horses—& offered him one wh he declined. He said that H.M. had 2 chairs brought in—one for himself & one for Henry & had the horses brought out & ridden by one by one to show their paces. He also showed him his cows & pheasants &c &c. Sir C. & Lady Dickson, Mr Mallet, Mr Sandison, Mr L. Gower, Lord G. Mr Smijth dined with us. | |
