28 September 1878 — Therapia
Saturday. 28th [September 1878]. Walked in the garden with Henry. Went to paint on the Pine terrace with Mellony. We found a fig tree & picked a lot of figs. Were joined by Capt. Stopford & Capt. Day of the “Condor” & Mr Hornby (the Admiral’s eldest son) a good looking youth. They lunched with us. We all went out to play tennis but were driven home by the rain & had to have tea indoors. Played with guitar with May. Henry & I went to dine with the Dolez– Met the Fourniers, Condouriotis & his daughter, & Hatzfeldt. In the evening they played a game of “secretaries” reinforced by Galvagna, the Verhaeghes & 3 French secs: A pouring wet night—blowing hard.
