27 December 1878 — Constantinople
Friday. 27th [December 1878]. Had a singing lesson. Had a letter by the messenger from Lady Ely thanking us from the Queen for our condolences on the Pss death. Went out in chair to pay visits: found Mme Serkis, Mme Aleschan & Mme Parnis at home. Went to the Millingens to the Dorcas meeting. Stayed abt ½ hour. Had visits from Dr & Mrs Cullen & from the Mantillas. She amused me much with description of Zichy’s picnic Christmas Tree. She said they danced till past 3. I had such a headache I was obliged to go to bed directly after dinner.
