1 June 1879 — Brusa
Sunday. 1st June [1879]. Had prayers with Alice, Florence & Jerry. At 2 we started off to meet the Pasha who had invited us to a picnic. We found the table prepared in a garden on the hill & we had a regular Turkish feast of wh I cd not eat much. It was a very hot day but pleasant in the shade. Some musicians found us out & insisted on playing to us & they played decently. It appeared they formed the orchestra of the Armenian theatre now playing here. From the gardens after dinner we drove to a kiosque where there was a lovely view & springs of hot & cold water & then to the Pasha’s own house which he has given for a public hospital. Here we parted with the Pasha & returned to the farm. At 10 we had a light supper & went to bed.
