29 July 1879 — Therapia | |
Tuesday. 29th July [1879]. Had my Turkish lesson after I had written for the messenger. Alice was laid up with a face ache & had to keep her bed. Henry went to see the Sultan. We played tennis. At abt 5 Said P. (English Saïd) & Fuad Pasha (the Genl.) arrived. We had not seen our dear friend Said for more than a year as he had been banished as Govr first of Angora & then of Kastamuni. Henry & Sir Alfred arrived home just at 8 oclock in time for dinner. Sir C. Dickson also dined with us. Just as they were leaving we heard a cry of fire & discovered that there was a house burning at Buyukdéré. Luckily there was not a breath of wind & the fire did not spread. | |
