12 September 1879 — En route to Rhodes | |
Friday. 12th September [1879]. Splendid weather. Wrote to Lady Salisbury & Mrs Burr & posted at Dardanelles abt 11 ocl: where we stayed a few minutes & the consul came on board. Alice read aloud to me a great deal of Mrs Burton’s Syria. We eat & drank a good deal all day & after dinner I played a few walses. | |
