Tuesday. 7th [October 1879]. We went so slowly that we had to give up stopping at Bodrum (Halicarnassus) and made for Samos being at sea all day. It was very hot & a perfect calm. I worked while Alice read aloud—& we gossiped & eat to while away the time. | |
