11 December 1879 — Constantinople
Thursday. 11th December [1879]. When we got up in the morng we found the ground covered with snow but it did not lie long on the ground and in the afternoon Henry & I were able to go down to Top-khaneh & there embark in the Antelope barge & go on board the Austrian Lloyd “Venus” to see Ct Zichy off who left for good– There were a great many gentlemen there & there was a great bustle. All our secs went with us—& we came away one of the first. I took Henry home & then went on to call on Lady Thomas, who was out & then to see Mme Hilmy P. whom I found at home. I was glad to get home & get warm.
