25 December 1879 — Constantinople | |
Thursday. [25th December 1879]. Christmas Day. Went to 11 o’cl: service. music very good. I & Alice went to the 8 o’cl: service for the Communion. After church Alice went to Candilli with Mrs Arthur to stay with her. The messenger arrived from Marseilles this morng being due last Friday. They had encountered such bad weather they had put in to Lyra for repairs. All the afternoon I cut out for refugees wadded jackets. Henry & I dined quite alone. The servants had a supper & dance & before I went to bed I went & peeped thro’ the door at them. They danced in our dining room & kept it up till 2. | |
