20 January 1880 — Constantinople | |
Tuesday. 20th January [1880]. It had snowed heavily all last night & weather was worse than ever. Wrote letters in bed & did not get up till 3 o’cl & then went to the boudoir. Mr Washington called. Had the school—all very stupid. Mrs Hobart, the Fernandez, Ittersum & Mr Smijth dined & they played dominoes in the eveng. It was a fearful night. The wind howled & the snow drifted. Mr Oliphant came in in the eveng. | |
