14 February 1880 — Constantinople
Saturday. 14th February [1880]. I painted all the morng. In the afternoon as Henry was not feeling well I persuaded him to lie down in my room & sleep & I mounted guard to prevent Jerry making a noise or any one disturbing him. I recd visits in the afternoon from the Heidenstams, Mr Wally Hanson & Mr Wallace. The latter tells me Englander has already telegraphed home Henry’s fall & will hereby have alarmed friends at home. It appears that Hobart P. offered to tell Englander startling news if he would stand him oysters & champagne wh he did. The Mantillas, Ct Corti & Baron Ittersum dined with us & they had a game of dominoes in wh I was glad to see Henry join.
