13 March 1880 — Constantinople
Saturday. 13th [March 1880]. We found it snowing hard when we woke so I stayed in bed till lunch time. It was terribly cold & the snow got thicker & thicker & the wind higher. It was so cold & horrid that one did not like to look out of doors. I played tennis after lunch with Henry, Arthur & Mr Smijth & then Aimée came & Alice & she played. I read & wrote. I made the childrens’ lessons short in order to have a little time to myself. Mrs Arthur Hanson came to dine & sleep. Capt. Swaine also dined. A fearful cold night–
