17 April 1880 — Constantinople
Saturday. 17th April [1880]. I was so CD at last I sent for Dr Patterson & could do nothing all the morning but sew & chat with Mrs Jolliffe. After lunch Henry & I went to Hatzfeldts lawn tennis party but I was too unwell to enjoy it. Henry played a game or two & I sat with the ladies who were assembled to watch the game & take tea Miss Addison presiding. Baron Ittersum’s engagement to her seemed to be formally given out today & was a 9 day’s wonder. Got home & sat in the garden & had tea with Mrs Jolliffe & Mrs Lascelles & then Patterson came to patch me up. Capt. Swaine & Mr Sartoris dined here & we had our usual practise of the Cherubini Requiem.
