18 May 1880 — Therapia
Tuesday. 18th [May 1880]. I painted all the morng & Mrs Jolliffe came & saw me—also Capt. Swaine & Mrs Sandison. Arthur Burr left us & returned to England by the Varna mail. After lunch Henry & I & the Gregorys went out in the 10 oared caique. We landed for a few minutes at Chibukli & then reembarked & went on to the Sweet Waters. There we landed & sat under a tree & Henry had a nargileh & coffee– It was a very hot day. We came back from the Sweet Waters & landed at Beikos & walked up the avenue & sat under a tree & made our tea. Hobart P. came to dine & sleep. Mr Lacy also dined with us & Sir Alfred Sandison. He tells me the Sultan has prepared a most lovely present of diamonds for me but that Henry has sent word that I may not accept it.
