21 May 1880 — Therapia | |
Friday. 21st May [1880]. The weather changed in the night & it was cold & wet when we got up. I had a busy morng with the servants. I went up to the stables & settled with James abt the horses, Jerry & during out absence. Mme Livadari came & spent the day. We sang over our Rubinstein duets together. She lunched with us. It poured all day & there was no going out. Lady Sinclair, & Miss St Clair came from town & I left them to discuss business with Henry about this affair between Rustem P. & Miss St Clair. Henry told me afterwards that Rustem has behaved like a scoundrel & that there is some curious mystery as to his past life wh she is resolved to clear up– After tea the Sinclair & Mme Livadari returned to town by steamer. Henry took a little walk in the garden but the rain drove us in & we walked in the corridor. We dined quite alone & played dominoes in the eveng. It was so cold we were glad of a fire to sit by in the eveng. | |
