22 May 1880 — Therapia | |
Saturday. 22nd May [1880]. Very cold & wet all day. I sat by the fire in the drawing room reading & writing. Henry went to town in the launch directly after breakfast to pay some farewell visits & did not return till 5 o’clock. Mrs Gerard Leigh’s yacht Chazalie came up abt then & anchored at Beikos opposite. Mr Ogle came over to remind us we were expected to dine on board. Hobart Pasha also called & Col. George Villiers, Lord Clarendon’s brother whom I had not seen since 11 years when we stayed at the Grove before going out to Madrid. He is now military attaché at our Embassy at St Petersburg. We went over to dine in the yacht & met there Col. Villiers, Hobart P., & those on board Lady Virginia Saunders, her niece Miss Taylour, a pretty girl in deep decline, Ogle & the yacht Dr. We had a pleasant evening & returned abt 11. | |
