18 June 1880 — Langham House, Portland Place
Friday. 18th June [1880]. Emilia Riaño came to see us after breakfast & we had a talk over Madrid. At 11 Henry & I drove to Pooles the tailor & while he was there I went to Monty’s opposite. Found him at breakfast & only stayed a few minutes as Henry soon fetched me & we drove to Bkheath to the old house at Landsdowne Place (No. 2). We spent all the time there in looking thro’ & dividing poor Grannie’s things & it was a most painful thing having to open all her private drawers & handle her keys wh she was so particular to let no one touch. We lunched with Frederic & Ida & Florence & Amy & Miss Berkeley came to lunch too. At 4 we started home carrying with us some plate left to Henry & some souvenirs left me & some of the things divided. Had tea & rested. Visits from Lady L. Ponsonby & Mrs Reeves. Ivor & Cornelia (Ld & Lady Wimborne) dined here. Ivor arrived in the middle of dinner having been kept in the house of Lords.
