29 August 1880 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Sunday. 29th August [1880]. My 7th bath– Dull day & storm threatened. Found Cortelazzo here on our return & he breakfasted with us. Sent to enquire but found there was no English service here now. Read all day. In the afternoon there was a gondola race wh we watched from our balcony. It came on to rain just as it was over. We dined at 7 & during dinner the band passed in the illuminated gondola but it had to remain under the Rialto as the rain came on hard & in a pelting shower it disappeared altogether. I read aloud to Henry in the eveng. | |
