31 August 1880 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 31st August [1880]. My 8th bath. There was a good deal of wind going to the Lido & I found there was not one person bathing & when I was ready to go into the water the people would not let me go in on the side one usually goes but made me go out at the back & stay under the piles of the establishment. I found this dull work & after a few minutes gave it up. We had a visit from the Abbate Zanetti who stayed to breakfast with us– He had come in from Murano to see us & to see a curious glass miniature altar (old) wh is on sale & Henry thought it wd be good for the Museo at Murano. Henry got a letter from Morelli saying he will arrive tomorrow. We went out in the gondola at 4 & went to the V. & Murano shop & to Rietti’s near there. After dinner went to walk on the Piazza & took ices in the Giardinetto– Had to hasten home on acct of rain.
