11 October 1880 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 11th [October 1880]. We went off to the station with Hill & Giovanni & met Sir Wm & Miss Drake & their 2 servants & went off by the 9.15 train to Milan. The weather was darkish & cold. We managed to get a carriage to ourselves but had to fight once or twice to keep it & at Brescia had a fuss with 2 young men who at last left us & at the next station they came & explained that they had not intended to be disagreeable had not Hy been so hasty & then they offered their cards to show they were not incogniti their names were Baron G. & M. Monti of Brescia. We arrived ½ hour late at Milan & went to the Hotel Cavour. There we had some tea & there Morelli joined us. We went out to the Gallery & looked at the shops & saw the lighting of the dome by a miniature steam engine– We dined at 7 & in the eveng Morelli & Mr Burton came in & spent the eveng.
