20 October 1880 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 20th October [1880]. Wrote letters in the morning– Had a cold & so did not go out. Ella came in the afternoon & sat with me & we began to fold & arrange my lace. Henry had a visit from Dr & Mrs Littman who wanted to see our pictures. The Drakes dined with us & after dinner Henry, Mr Burton & I went to the Hotel Britannia to take tea with the Grahams. We found quite a party there. Browning the Poet & his spinster sister, Lady Bagot & her daughter, Dr Richter, Mr & Mrs Hitchin &c &c. I was surprised on asking who Mrs Hitchin was to be told she was an old acquaintance May Prinsep whom I remembered as going out with Mr Prinsep of Little Holland Hse. She is still pretty but her beauty is so different as a married woman that I could not find any resemblance to her as a girl– We returned home by 10.
