23 October 1880 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Saturday. 23rd October [1880]. Wrote letters– Ella came & we finished the lace– The Drakes lunched with us. Lord & Lady & Miss Bagot called at 2 & were duly shown our pictures. We all (Drakes, us & Mr Burton) went out afterwards to Marcatos where Sir Wm bought a Wedgwood snuff box &c & then we went on to San Giobbe—saw a fine picture by Savoldo—beautiful carved stone work. It was almost too dark to see it & the sacristan had to light candles. Came home to tea in my studio. Drakes dined as usual. I sang a little after dinner & we did not go out. | |
