6 January 1881 — Naples
Thursday. 6th January [1881]. A pouring wet morning. We intended going out to Museum but we found it was shut being the feast of the Epiphany– After luncheon we went to walk in the gardens to hear the band. The rain had cleared off. I was tired & glad to get home. Helped Hill to finish light green dress to wear in the eveng at Css Montest Angelo’s where we dined. A dinner party of 20. The Duke of Cajanella took me to dinner & I sat between him & Pce Cariati the Cts’ grandson. the Dss del Balso (nee Lady Dor: Walpole), the Duke & Dss Verona, Sr Castagneta, Ct Palfi were among those who dined. Dinner was good but very long– Beautiful china & good plate– After a short stay in the drawing room we went off to Lady Holland’s. Remained there ½ hour. Met Dss of Satriano a very nice person–
