20 February 1881 — Rome | |
Sunday. 20th February [1881]. Henry stayed in bed till luncheon. At 11 Mr Malcolm came for me & we went to Alessandro Castellani’s for me to finish the sketches of glass and returned home to lunch at 1. Mr Malcolm lunched with us. Afterwards I went to Mme Minghetti’s where there was the usual Sunday musical party but the weather being dull the room was so dark it was almost impossible to make out ones friends. Scamberti played the piano & Mme Hegermann sang. I went on to the Villa Campana– Met Henry & Mr Malcolm who had walked there. Cerruti & his nephew also– Mme Cairoli came & took me away with her to drive in the Corso & the Villa Borghese. She was full of the affair of the Court not going to the Pallavicini ball– It appears that the King wd not go because the Ministers & their wives were not asked. I tried to calm down Mme Minghetti. We dined at home & went early to bed. | |
