17 April 1881 — Inwood, Henstridge, Somerset
Sunday. 17th April [1881]. Easter Sunday. I walked to morning church with Henry, Theo & Merthyr. No sermon. Henry returned before we did– Found him sitting out with lady W. & Webblin. It was a lovely day. We took a walk in the afternoon & went thro’ the woods near the house wh were full of anemones & of primroses & fresh sprouting leaves. There was a nightingale singing in the distance and larks & finches chattering & warbling. It was quite charming & the evening had quite a spring feeling. There was family prayers in the eveng. Merthyr & I sang hymns together in the new long gallery till quite late & Webblin, Lady Westr & Henry all dosed in their chairs.
