22 April 1881 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 22nd April [1881]. I trimmed Alice’s bonnet for her & then we went out shopping together & walked about a good deal returning to lunch– We went to Mansfield St & saw Susan Hambro on our way to our shopping. Maria came to fetch Alice & both lunched with us. Henry & I went by 3 train from Euston Sqr to Brampton to stay with Kitty at Holdenby. We got there abt 5.30– Had tea– It was very cold. Found all the 7 children were at home. The eldest boy Augustus was waiting to know the result of his exam for the army. Monty who is 11 was home from Sir F. Gore Ouseley’s school– He has a wonderful gift for music & played the piano after dinner.
