23 July 1881 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Saturday. 23rd July [1881]. The Genl. went off in the morng to Hunde to fish all the way down & did not return till the evening having taken nothing. Monty fished at Frieswold and caught one salmon. I went down to the Bank with my trout fly and caught nothing. When I first set out I found my rod was broken & I came back in despair. John said that I could go on just the same after he had cut a little bit off. So I returned to the Bank & at once caught my fly in a tree. There was a tiresome wind blowing & it got up later so that I had to come home. At 2 Henry & I lunched—& later Monty came to lunch– I went down again to the Bank & cast while Monty fished the Pool & Henry went in a boat. At last the rain drove us home & it came on dark & stormy. We dined at 8 & I went early to bed.
