25 July 1881 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Monday. 25th July [1881]. Being better I got up to breakfast at 10 but could not eat and had to go & lie down again & felt very CD all the morng & was so cold that at last I put on one of Monty’s thickest coats & went out with him to see his boat which was nearly ready for use. Then Monty held a meeting of farmers about his contracts & I took my rod & went down to cast at the river. At the “Rest” I saw a fish jump, but I got no trout & then I fished all the way down. When Monty came out later he fished the Pool at the rest & saw a fish rise. I ran to tell him of the one I had seen when just as I got there he caught a salmon. I had to run for the gaff & Anton Syltebö brought it & gaffed the fish for Monty which turned out to weigh 17 lbs. Henry & the Genl. caught 0. Dinner at 4. Afterwards Monty & I went down again to the bank but caught nothing. There was a lurid sunset & showers– No more fish were caught. Henry & I played cribbage.
