2 December 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 2nd December [1881]. We finished arranging the rooms. At 11 Mrs Eden came to fetch me and we went out walking. Went to the fur shop where I bought some pieces of fur & then on to the fan shop to get a fan for a Christmas present for Alice Du Cane. At the Piazzetta we took a gondola & I dropped Mrs Eden at her house & went on home. After lunch I went out in the gondola with Henry. We went to Trapolin’s to see for some stuff to cover chairs—we went to the antiquity shop for Henry to pay for the curious old book on dice & fortune wh he got for 70 Fcs. We went to bid Mr Eden good bye but he was ill with bronchitis & we only saw Mrs Eden in an outer room. Henry took her his book to lend Mrs Calvert to read—then we went home to tea. Sent the gondola to the station to meet the Fred: Layards & they arrived abt 8 o’cl: Frederic, Ida, Florence, Amy & Idalina. We dined downstairs in the dining room. Henry played cribbage with Amy. I sewed at Mrs Edens hat wh I am making her– Cortelazzo returned to Vicenza after dinner.
