27 December 1881 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset | |
Tuesday. 27th December [1881]. After breakfast Maria, Henry, Alice & I walked to Hampreston by the new road & bridge. We went into the lodge to see Caroline & George Warren & then on to old Nanny Ponds & Maria & I sat with her a little while. We went on to the old church & Alice got to keep close by so we went in to see it. We walked back & got back just as the lunch bell rang. After lunch I went up with the Guest children to their schoolroom & had a romp—then I went with them to the Canford School to see the school tea– I walked back to the house in search of Henry but he would not come with us so I returned to the school to see the Christmas Tree– Wrote letters after T. Dined at 8.15. Singing in the evening American choruses wh Lady Randolph brought us. Went in to Lady Randolph’s room at night to talk to her & she said she hoped we were not shocked at her songs &c &c. | |
