29 December 1881 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Thursday. 29th December [1881]. I had a headache & so remained in all the morning listening to Lady Randolph’s music. Directly after luncheon she & I walked off to the home coverts to see the gentlemen shoot & we found them just going to shoot the last conies so we stayed with them & saw them finish. There was very little killed as the gentlemen shot very badly. When it was over I walked home with Ivor. Had tea & then I went to lie down till dinner as my head was bad. I fell to the lot of Richard Du Cane at dinner & sat between him & P. Dolgorouky but I could not touch any food & had to give up going to the Wimborne ball & go to bed directly after. Henry & Rd were the only ones besides who did not go to it.
