18 January 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 18th January [1882]. Found on waking a horrid fog which obliged us to have lamps nearly all the morning. Did accounts & wrote letters &c in the morning. After lunch drove out with Henry & we went to Dulau in Soho Square to talk to him about sending my lace book to Mr Chenery to be reviewed in the Times. I then left Henry at the Athenaeum & went on to see Connie. Found Maria there & waited till she came down. I stayed an hour with Connie & then came home bringing Maria with me. We had tea & Henry joined us. I worked machine till dressing time. Went to dine with Lady Eastlake. Met Mr & Mrs De Gex, Dr & Mrs Wm Smith, Dr & Mrs Flower, Mr Norman, Mr Beaufort (Ly Strangford’s brother) & a Mrs Cavendish Boyle & Mr & Mrs Simpson (née Senior). Dr Wm Smith took me to dinner & Mr Simpson sat on my left. Dr S. was very talkative & amusing.
