17 February 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 17th February [1882]. The boil being over I was able to get up at 10 & go downstairs. Merthyr came to see me. Mrs W. Hanson also came to see me in the morng. Mrs Austin (Temmie) came to luncheon. I dressed for the Drawing Room after lunch & Henry & I went off to it at 20 mins. to 3– We had the entrée so were in good time. Burton came to see me in the morng & ordered me a tonic as I was weak—Henry has also a whitlow. The Drawing Room was a small one & over by 4. The Queen looked very well, shook hands with me & asked after “Mrs Eliot.” All the R. Family shook hands with me—& Pss Christian asked me how I was as she had heard I had been ill. We waited some time after we had passed to see Theo & Merthyr & we went away at the same time as they did. Theo was dressed in British silks. White skirt & train—latter trimmed with green satin & Irish lace. She wore pearls & large drop emeralds– I found Mama & Mrs Austin waiting for us when we got home. Mrs Hambro & Nety came also. I then undressed & laid on sofa & we had tea. We went to dine with Blanche & Edward. I was very tired but recovered after dinner. Met Mr & Mrs Spencer Ponsonby, Fane—Sir Adolphus Liddell—Lady Edith Ashley, Miss Ralli & Cyril Ponsonby. Sir Adolphus took me down to dinner & I sat next Spencer Ponsonby. Blanche sang in the evening.
