23 March 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 23rd March [1882]. Kathleen came again to sit for the hand in her portrait but there were so many interruptions I had to give it up. Her mother, Mrs Hanson, came to fetch her. Mrs Burr came for a chat. Temmy Austin came to lunch & I sent to beg Annie Murray to come to luncheon wh she did. After lunch Henry walked to Lang. Hse & I went in the carriage to fetch him after I had left Miss Murray at her home. Alice returned to her home with Temmy in the course of the afternoon. Henry & I went to call on Lord & Lady Hammond & found them in. Sat some time with them. I left Henry at the Nat. Gallery, did some shopping & went home. Miss Barbara Layard called & sat some time & had tea. Mr Ffrench called & stayed till just dressing time when he said he must go as he had to dine at the Blumenthals. I said we were also dining there. Met Mr & Mrs Lowther, Ld & Lady Folkestone, the Jeunes, Lady Lindsay of Balcarres &c &c. Mr Jeune took me to dinner & I had Mr Lowther for my other neighbour. Mr Jeune is always pleasant & I enjoyed myself. In the eveng I talked to Mrs Jeune & also to Lady Lindsay– We heard a German called Hervé play the violin very beautifully & then we left & went home. Luff arrived to stay a couple of nights here.
