Friday. 28th April [1882]. Rather better news of Mr Rate. Worked my sewing machine & finished a frock for Blanche. Maria came to luncheon also Annie Murray & Constance came after we had sat down. Monty was also at home– At 3 Henry & I went to the Private view of the R. Academy where we met a heap of friends & acquaintance. There was no very striking picture– Met Blanche & she brought me home at 4.30. Henry went on to see Sir Wm Drake & found a bad acct. of Mr Rate. Weber & Gull had been sent for to him at Milton. Blanche went away directly after T. Then Barbara Layard & Miss Sabonadiere came & she B. talked a great deal about her family. She is the youngest of a family of 26. Her eldest sister Mrs Sneyd was married & died before Barbara was born– There was 30 years between the sisters– Mrs Burr came too—& she leaves town for good tomorrow after the Grov. Gallery Private View. We dined at 8 & Henry & I played cribbage in the evening. | |
