10 May 1882 — Aldermaston Court, Aldermaston, Berkshire
Wednesday. 10th May [1882]. Rose at 7.30. It was a dull morng. Worked the machine most of the morning. After lunch I finished what I was doing in the machine & at 3 I started in the pony carriage with Mrs Burr & we went up the park & joined the Squire at the Decoy pond & we fished & had poor success only getting a few gudgeon. We could see the large gold schlei swimming abt & taking no notice of our bait. At 5 Henry joined us having walked there & he walked home & Mrs Burr brought me back in the carriage round by the road. We had some tea on our arrival home tho’ it was near upon 6 o’cl. I went upstairs & read till dinner. After dinner we played 4 handed whist till bed time. The papers announce that a reward of £10,000 has been offered for the murderers of Ld F. Cavendish & Mr Burke.
