12 May 1882 — Aldermaston Court, Aldermaston, Berkshire
Friday. 12th May [1882]. It was a splendid morning & I sat & read in the sun before breakfast. Sat all the morning with Mrs Burr in boudoir & worked, talked & made cigarettes. After lunch drove out in pony carriage with Mrs Burr to Upton Court & round home thro the pine woods & the park. We got home at 4.30. Had some tea & sallied forth to go to the lake to fish. The Squire was there & had prepared the bait but we caught nothing & we returned & sat outside the door on the terrace till dinner time. Mr Higford returned here today. Mr Warrington Philips dined & they had a rubber of whist in the eveng. Mrs Burr & I took to our books. I read Lubbock’s paper on ants.
