26 August 1882 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 26th August [1882]. Spent nearly all the morning washing plants &c & putting them in order. Stuck in despatches. Lunch at 1. Alice began to read aloud Prescotts Ferdinand & Isabella. Went out with Henry in gondola at 3.30 to call on old Mr Rawdon Brown. He was at home & we sat with him some time– He lent me his fan with the Sposalizio of del Mare wh I am going to copy. Mme Hurtado & Idita came while we were there & we brought the latter home with us in our gondola. She went over to fetch Olga Mocenigo & returned. Countess Valmarana called & sat some time with us. Mme Hurtado came later & fetched away Idita & took leave of us as they leave tonight for Monte Cattini. We dined at 7. Went out in the gondola all 3 of us & took a row out. Moonlight & a good deal of lightening. Cribbage.
