29 October 1882 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 29th October [1882]. Alice, Mildred & I went to church where it was chilly & draughty & the weather was not very settled. We got news by post of the sudden death of Francie, Mr & Mrs Rate’s daughter– She had been ailing the last 3 years but her end must have been sudden & we were much shocked– Visit after lunch from Mr H. Brown– Flowers from Mr Malcolm wh I arranged. Read. Mildred & I had an explanation of last night & harmony was restored. Then we had some reading aloud till dinner & hymns after dinner. Henry & I played cribbage.
