25 February 1883 — 3 Savile Row
Sunday. 25th [February 1883]. Went to St George’s Hanover Sqr to Ivor’s pew & met there the M. & S. After church the mother came home with me but left before lunch. After lunch I walked to Mrs Murrays in Albemarle St & asked to be allowed to pay Mrs Murray a visit. She is failing very much & is kept nearly always in an upper room as she is very nervous & her memory is in a very curious state. Annie & her father went up with me to her room & helped me out with the visit. Henry fetched me in the carriage & drove me to call on Lady Stanhope. I found her at home & had a little talk alone with her until we were interrupted by Sir Henry Hoare. In the meanwhile Henry went to see Lord Hammond & called for me again. He went to Lady Reay & I went to see the Rates who came to town yesterday. Henry joined me & we went on to tea with Fred & Ida Layard at 3 Cavendish Road St John’s Wood. Only Ida was at home of the 3 girls. We came home abt 6 & dined quietly going to bed early after a game of cribbage.
