30 March 1883 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 30th March [1883]. I walked out in the morning to see Blanche. She was going out in the carriage so I went on to see Mamma & Blanche called for me & took me home. There I found a message from Bss Burdett Coutts asking me to go this afternoon to call on Mama with her. Accordingly she called for me & we went to Langham House & had much talk abt Turkish Embroideries. Then the Bss took me to the Rates & left me there. Alice was still in bed, I sat with her a little & then went to call on Mrs Bruce & found her just going out so after a few minutes I got up to go & she offered me a lift home wh I gladly accepted. Bss B. Coutts offered to take us to theatre. Henry did not care to go not feeling well eno’ but I dined with her & she took me to the Court Theatre to see a piece called “The Rector” in wh Marion Terry acts. It was very well got up but was ridiculous & there was far too much kissing on the stage. Mr White chaplain to the Savoy chapel went with us & a Col. whose name I did not catch. Sir Algernon Borthwick joined us there. The Court, a new theatre near Sloane St was very empty.
