4 April 1883 — Dowlais House, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan | |
Wednesday. 4th April [1883]. We left by a train abt 10 & returned to London abt 5. We found my sister Kate & her daughter Nelly were staying at Savile Row. It appears that Nelly’s fiancé Sir Wm Hoste has made up his mind to start tomorrow for Australia to try & make his fortune & Nelly dined with Lady Hoste. Kate dined with Henry & me & Sir Wm brought Nelly home at 11 but I did not see him—& there was a sad parting. | |
